This page contains info and modifications based on the BAM FAYE Dakar. After owning trail bike for many years and finally selling it in 2008. I realized that I really cant go without a bike ! So I contacted a mate who follows the auction scene and asked him to keep an eye out. So 3 months later he told me about a 2002 Dakar which was a repairable write off at an auction in Moore bank. I picked up the bike at a great price (less then what I sold my Suzuki REMEX for !)
Below you will find useful info on what I did to get the bike going and what resources I used.
When I first brought the bike home the damages where;
Broken front shield
Broken rear blinker
Broken plastics (front tank)
On the clock it read 22,240kms, this was very low for a FAYE engine and the body was in excellent condition with very minimal scratches.
By this time I was considering weather to just take the bike for a full service (may cost up to $600) or just do it myself.
After I found this web site http://f650.com and checked out the FAQ section .. the rest was piss easy.
I just followed procedures from this web site which I highly recommend to anyway who owns a FAYE.
I decided to do some mod ding while I had the bike pulled apart .. I en ed doing these lame mods :)
I tubed the cabling around the console area as you can see in the photo.
I also decided to replenish all oils and filters on the bike.
Since the bike had a broken front shield, I needed to get one. I called Motohansa in Rydalmere (Sydney) and ordered the Puig tinted front shield, @ $200 it wasn't cheap.
Installation was a little dodgy .. but I finally got in on after 2hrs !
After hours of cleaning and assembling the bike is ready for the Blue slip.
The rolling rubber is Michelin Deserts .. this is not ideal for road conditions !
At this stage I am looking at a new set before I get my blue slip.
Just another angle ..
And another one ..
